TreeHouse Point owner, Pete Nelson, began his love affair with treehouses when he was just five years old, building his first treehouse with a few tools and his dad to guide him. In 2005, Pete purchased property near his own home in Fall City and began dreaming up plans for a tree-lined retreat. What started as one treehouse quickly grew into many more, transforming the space into the rare oasis it is today.

An Interview with Joanna Dyckhoff, Co-Founder of Bamboo Beats

January 26, 2016

What inspired you to start Bamboo Beats?

Bamboo Beats started when my husband (Bamboo Beats co-founder Isaac Dyckhoff) and I struggled to find a DJ for our own wedding. After a long search, we curated our own vinyl collection, set up the turntables and enlisted a couple friends to play DJ. We had so much fun preparing music for our own wedding that we started DJ-ing other weddings on the side. After several years of constant demand for our services we launched Bamboo Beats together in 2005.

What are your three favorite wedding songs?

  1. Let’s Stay Together – Al Green
  2. Before I Let Go – Frankie Beverly & Maze
  3. I Want You Back – Jackson 5

Have you noticed any recent trends for wedding music and entertainment?

We have recently seen an increase in pop music songs that play homage to the music of the 70s and 80s. It’s exciting for us because the music from those eras was so original and funky! Being able to spin these songs that hint back at classic tunes helps to bridge the gap in generations on the dance floor. We feel it’s our job to bring people together on the dance floor by celebrating cherished hits with the younger generation and introducing new music to the older generation.

As far as entertainment, we have been noticing more breakdancing and hip-hop dances being incorporated into the first dance and even grand entrances!

What do you love about working with Herban Feast?

How attentive every staff member is! Every event we work with Herban Feast on is always timely and beautiful, with the utmost care to every detail.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that I get to work together with my husband to create magic for couples on their special day. I especially love the spontaneity and crazy dance moments that come to life on the dance floor!

Thank you for giving us a look inside Bamboo Beats, Joanna! A full list of Herban Feast’s partner vendors can be found here. See more partner vendor profiles here and here.

Two Tips to Transform Your Traditional Holiday Décor

December 14, 2015

‘Tis the season for holiday parties and hosting guests! As you prepare your home or office for your next gathering, we thought you might enjoy these two simple tips from our Herban Design Studio experts for enlivening your typical décor.

Decorative Greenery

Holiday styling_1

Embellish a plain wreath by adding bows, twigs, and ornaments like the one pictured. Not a DIY-er? Our Herban Bloom shop on Vashon creates amazing ornamental wreaths in all shapes and sizes.

Holiday styling_3

Instead of flowers or berries, add pine cones and twigs to your pine branch centerpieces.

Holiday styling_2

Garland on a mantel is expected, but adding it to your table centerpiece is not. We love adding in little led-lit votive candles too.

Make Your Holiday Colors Pop

White, metallic, or pink are beautiful colors to add to your traditional red and green décor.

Holiday styling_4

Crisp white chairs contrasted by the rich green garland centerpiece infused with pink, white and red flowers is unexpected and fresh.

Holiday styling_5

Or, forgo holiday colors and opt for wintery white décor accented by shimmering gold and silver.

If you try one of these tips, we’d love to see pictures! Share them with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

An Interview with BreeAnn Gale, Founder & Lead Event Planner at Pink Blossom Events

November 9, 2015

Pink Blossom Events_1

Summer is a busy time for any wedding planner. What was your favorite trend that popped up at weddings this summer?

This summer was a hot one in Seattle so it was fun seeing all the creative ideas my clients had to beat the heat and keep their guests cool. From ice cream treats during cocktail hour (it’s never too early for dessert!) to fans that doubled as programs. While these trends might not translate into fall and winter, they were definitely a winner for summer!

What do you love most about your job?

My favorite part of my job is the working with each individual client! They always bring a unique idea or wish to the planning process, allowing me to be creative and try something different each time. I really try to make sure the event reflects the couple’s personality above anything else.

Any insider tips for future brides?

Trust the process! Each of the vendors you’ve hired is an expert in their field. Let them guide you through the planning and your wedding day will be better than expected.

What is your must-have item for any wedding?

My list of must-haves for a wedding seems to grow each year but my number one must have is a good pair of shoes. Whether you are the bride looking for that perfect pair of shoes to give you that “wow factor” or a wedding vendor who is on their feet all day, shoes can make or break your day!

Seattle’s Eastside Venue Feature: A Tour inside the Stunning Bellevue Arts Museum

October 29, 2015

We are excited to take you inside one of our favorite Eastside venues,  Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM).

Located in downtown Bellevue, BAM was originally founded in 1947 and was moved and transformed several times before permanently settling into its current location in 2001. The museum’s building was designed by renowned architect, Steven Holl. A Washington native himself, Holl designed BAM using materials that would highlight the Pacific Northwest’s outdoor beauty, including glass, terraces and skylights.

Within the museum there are three distinct event spaces that are perfect for a wide range of events, from a cocktail hour on the Court of Light, to a board meeting in BAM’s Auditorium, to an elegant dinner in the Forum.

The Forum, located on the museum’s first floor, is at the very center of the building and has a two story high ceiling, making it a dramatic and elegant space perfect for a wedding reception or seated dinner. Amazing pieces of art and design add character to The Forum’s walls.

The second event space at the museum is The Court of Light, a large veranda located off of the third floor. The Court of Light is home to amazing large scale art pieces created by artists from all around the world, making it the perfect backdrop for a cocktail hour or sunset event.

BAM’s Auditorium space is a warm gathering spot for small-scale events. Its wood appearance and full audio/visual features make it perfect for meetings, presentations and intimate gatherings.

Thank you BAM for letting us take a look inside your beautiful location! A complete list of our off-site venues can be found here. Take a look at Herban Feast’s own venues on the blog here, here and here. Connect with us on FacebookTwitter and Pinterest!

Preparing for Stunning Fall and Winter Events at our Sodo Park & The Foundry Open Houses

October 15, 2015

Twice a year we transform our Sodo Park and The Foundry venues into themed sensations to showcase new seasonal décor and dishes.  This season, we hosted our open house events on one evening, allowing guests to experience the delight of both venues simultaneously.

Our Sodo Park venue’s rustic charm was enlivened with bright floral décor and pops of color, naturals and neutrals including wood accents and crisp white draping, and antique detailing including old-fashioned lanterns and gold accented vases.

The Foundry was styled as a romantic winter wonderland complete with a forest of twinkly lights, antique books as table décor, and wintery flowers. Bright metallic place settings, pillows and table coverings created a sparkling fairytale effect, off-set by bright white furniture and draping.

Guests tasted dishes from our fall/winter menu including a Roasted Red Pepper and Lentil Stuffed Chard Bundle entrée and Beef and Ricotta Canapé appetizer. An ice bar from Creative Ice, onion ring bar, and wine tasting completed the delicious spread.
