Spring and Summer Event Inspiration from our Dual Open House

April 15, 2016

Our Sodo Park and The Foundry venues were enlivened with exquisite spring and summer décor and florals during last week’s Open House event. Thanks to our talented style and design team, both venues were transformed into wedding and special event ready settings, allowing guests to imagine how they would look during their own event.

Guests started the evening at The Foundry, where our Herban Design Studio and Herban Bloom team combined lush greenery, metallic accents, flicking candlelight and floral details for a romantic, modern feel.

Picture 1

Ready to learn how to create the perfect bouquet arrangement, wow dinner guests with a gorgeous centerpiece and learn the secrets of growing and cooking herbs?

Then we have news for you! Our flower shop and floral décor store on Vashon Island is offering spring classes and workshops starting this April. Classes will take place at Herban Bloom’s beautiful shop on Vashon Island. This is the perfect way to inspire your inner-gardener (and would also make a great Mother’s Day gift!).

Here are the classes/workshops to choose from:

Art of the Seasonal Centerpiece:

Herban Bloom’s own Floral Designers will guide you to create the perfect seasonal centerpiece for your table. This hands-on class includes instruction, flowers and vases to bring your floral vision to life. Sunday, April 26th, noon-2pm. Taught by Melody Williams and Mark Grant of Herban Bloom.

Gardening & Cooking with Herbs:

Bring your garden and kitchen together in this hands-on workshop. We’ll discuss all kinds of herbs, and how to grow, harvest, cook, and preserve them. An herb-inspired lunch will be provided with recipes including: Rosemary Lemonade, Sweet Potato-Dungeness Crab Cakes, Lemony Spring Sorrel Soup Shooter, Herb and Goat Cheese Timbales, Salad of Organic Greens, Fresh Herbs and Edible Flowers with Raspberry Thyme Vinaigrette, Herb Buttermilk Knots with Chive Butter, and Rosemary Caramel Sandwich Cookies. Wednesday, May 20th, 6-8 pm. Taught by BJ Duft, owner of Herban Bloom and Herban Feast.

Make a Hypertufa Planter:

Hypertufa is a combination of mixed peat moss, cement, and perlite used to create rustic pots that are perfect for growing herbs, succulents, and other plants. This workshop will require you to tap into your imagination in order to create a hypertufa planter of your own design! Sunday, May 24th, noon-2pm. Taught by BJ Duft, owner of Herban Bloom and Herban Feast.

Picture 2

All About Lavender:

Did you know that there are over 150 varieties of lavender? Learn about what varieties to grow in the Pacific Northwest, what varieties to cook with, what varieties to use for aromatherapy and much more. A light lunch will be provided with lavender-inspired recipes such as Strawberry-Lavender Lemonade, Tapenade, Chicken Pressada, Grilled Asparagus W/ Vegetable Citronette, Herbs de Provence Quinoa Pilaf, and Lavender-Lemon Shortbread Cookies. You will also get to take home an aromatic lavender sleep pillow. Sunday, May 31st, noon-2 pm. Taught by BJ Duft, owner of Herban Bloom and Herban Feast.

Don’t have time for a class this spring? We are planning additional classes for the summer and fall, so stay tuned!

All classes will enjoy light snacks and refreshments. Class fee is $50 per class. Handouts and materials will be provided. Garden gloves advised for potting and hypertufa class.

Get inspired by these bridal trends for 2015

March 12, 2015

As we get closer to the peak of wedding season, we’ve been noting our favorite trends, styles, décor and themes. Here are a few that we think you’ll love as much as we do.

  1. Off-the-shoulder dresses

This romantic look was all the rage during spring runway shows and offers a fresh style for the romantic bride who’s looking beyond the ball gown.

  1. Marsala

Pantone’s 2015 Color Of The Year is showing up in wedding details big and small – from flowers to groom attire to cakes and décor.

  1. Lace invitations

Lace has always been a trend for wedding dresses, but now it’s making the leap to other wedding details, like these invitations.

  1. Metallic bridesmaid dresses

Just because it’s the bride’s day to shine doesn’t mean that the bridesmaids can’t stand out too! Glitz and glamour are sneaking into bridal parties, putting a spotlight on the bride’s leading ladies.

  1. Communal dining

Many brides this season are embracing inclusivity and togetherness with big family-style tables.

  1. Flower crowns for the bride

All hail the floral queen! Brides are taking spring flowers to a new level, using them to top off their wedding ‘do. It’s an easy (and inexpensive) way to add some bohemian glam to your look.

  1. Chalkboards

Chalkboards are the new black. From invitations to menus to seating charts, they’ve become a new wedding staple.

  1. Greenery

While we all know flowers and weddings go hand-in-hand, brides this season are opting for a “greener” floral arrangement. Greenery is showing up on all the trendy wedding tables and in many bride bouquets this spring. Perfect for an enchanting summer wedding.

  1. Fishtail braids

This laid back look is all the rage on the runways and red carpet this year. Now, brides are making it their own. With this messy yet stylish look you won’t have to fret about your hair during your big day.

         10. Local and sustainable food

Weddings are going green as brides and grooms are becoming more thoughtful about what they’re serving friends and family. Couples are requesting local food that is sustainably sourced, like our new spring/summer menus featuring ingredients from Northwest farms and producers.
