Q&A with Seattle Event Planner, Michelle Bernard of Married with Michelle

Married with Michelle

In our featured partner Q&A, event planner and wedding connoisseur, Michelle from “Married with Michelle,” is sharing her thoughts about upcoming trends and her experience in the wedding industry! Michelle has been planning weddings, galas and events for over ten years now— including many, many events with us!

1. What trends are you seeing for the coming year?

2014 brings trends that carry through from the past year such as lace, navy blue, nudes and blush tones. For attire, embellishments for hair such as lush floral crowns and intricate headpieces. Styled grooms have unique tailored suits, bow ties, patterned socks and eclectic touches. Floral and botanicals this year focus on succulents paired with soft peonies and garden roses in muted tones. In lieu of traditional table linens, rustic wide planked farm tables and wooden benches are a natural alternative. Parisian design and influence has also taken center stage and can be seen in lace gowns, decadent petit four dessert displays, large marquee letters of the couples initials and cafe lights.

2. Why did you become a wedding planner?

I have always loved to take care of people. Being a wedding planner allows me to take each couple under my wing and guide them in a way that lets them enjoy their engagement. I am typically working with the couples for a year or more, which creates a unique relationship. I am their biggest cheerleader, voice of reason, counselor and trusted partner. Coming from a background in corporate public relations, there is a satisfaction I get in planning a momentous life event such as a wedding.

3. What do you love about your job?

The wedding day of course! I like to think I am on the same adrenaline rush as my couples, come wedding day. All the hard work of planning and taking them on the journey from inception to completion comes down to that day. When I see that my couple and their guests are completely at ease and in the moment it is the most rewarding feeling. To hear “this was the most amazing day of our lives” and “this is the best wedding I have ever attended” makes me honored that I was allowed to play a small part in their life journey.
